Global energy demand is expected to grow by more than one-third over the period to 2035, as latest figures of the International Energy Agency show. MENA total energy capital investment is to amount to $740bn from 2013-17, according to the Arab Petroleum Investments Corporation.
Both Germany and the Arab world are targeting an increase in renewable energy use to improve energy efficiency and meet the increasing energy demand. The German government plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20%, increase the share of renewable energy in overall energy consumption by 20% and to improve energy efficiency by 20% until 2020.
In order to promote Arab-German business partnerships in the energy sector, the Ghorfa Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the 4th Arab-German Energy Forum on October 22nd – 23rd, 2013 at the Hotel Adlon Kempinski in Berlin.
German enterprises are well known for their sustainable contribution to the development in many sectors and aim at strengthening their partnerships in the Arab world. The German energy industry is a reliable partner in order to reach the energy goals. Recent developments in the sector of renewables and the expertise in conventional energy technologies reinforce this potential. Germany and the Arab world can benefit from technological knowledge and experience and the prospective huge investments in this sector.
At the 4th Arab-German Energy Forum, renowned experts of the industry and politics discussed current trends and potential cooperation possibilities on: Smart Grids and Virtual Power Plants, Water-Energy-Nexus, Frameworks and Financing, Changing Parameters: Current and Future Trends in the Energy Sector, Securing Energy Supply and Solar & Wind Power.
Moreover the 4th Arab-German Energy Forum presented a great opportunity to expand networking between Arab and German partners.
As in the last years more than 300 Arab and German participants from politics, business and sciences participated at the conference.
